Ho Chi Minh, Ho Chi Minh – December 10, 2018 – As a general rule of thumb, travelers entering Vietnam needs passports or valid passport-substitute papers, or Vietnam visa on arrival and an entry visa by the Vietnam immigration authorities to enter into Vietnam. When asked about this, “The spouses and children of Vietnamese citizens living overseas can be exempted from entry visa with temporary residence duration for no more than 6 months. Currently, citizens of 24 countries are exempt from Vietnam visa, but the duration and conditions may vary for different countries,” replied the spokesperson of Vietnam Immigration Service.
According to the sources, nationals who hold a popular passport of many countries which have been signed bilateral or unilateral visa exemption agreement with Vietnam do not require a valid visa for a certain period of time.
The unconditional visa exemption is available for the citizens of Chile, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Kyrgyzstan, Philippines, Brunei, Myanmar, Japan, South Korea, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Russia, United Kingdom, France, Italy, Germany, Spain, and Belarus. But, the terms and conditions for each country may vary.
The spokesperson also continued, “Many countries are exempted from the visa and its fees as compared to the States which has to pay USD 40 to 50. The policy today of the immigration is to exempt as many countries from the policy of visa as possible. It is a notified fact that Japan saw a lot of their citizens visiting Vietnam since the requirements of visa eased down.”
